Julius Abure, the Labour Party’s Factional National Chairman, says that the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, are to blame for the party’s problems.
Abure said this on Arise Television on Wednesday.
He said that the party’s problems began when Peter Obi and Otti went to Umuahia to form a caretaker committee.
“I want to be very clear that Peter Obi and Alex Otti are the ones who caused the party’s problems. Under my leadership, the party was sailing smoothly and playing the role of the opposition. When Peter Obi and Alex Otti went to Umuahia to set up a caretaker committee, that’s when the party really fell apart. I didn’t make that. I didn’t start the problem. I was a unifier in the party and helped it grow. I built the party from the ground up. Peter Obi joined the party because of the leadership we showed. Alex Otti and Peter Obi went to Umuahia and started a faction in the party. That’s where we are now. “So, for me, you have seen that he has become a rolling stone that is hard to gather moss,” he said.
In response to claims that his time as leader would end in 2024, Abure said that he had gotten a new mandate before the deadline.
“The term didn’t end. The term was set to end on June 9, 2024. “And before the end of the term, on March 27, 2024, a new national convention was held where the current leadership came out,” he said.
