Habib Mai-Lemo, the Kwankwasiyya Movement’s spokesperson, has said that a joint presidential ticket with Mr. Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would be a big problem for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Mai-Lemo said this while answering questions on Trust TV about how strong the Kwankwasiyya Movement is. This was in response to growing online campaigns by supporters calling for a political alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso.
He said that both politicians have a lot of support from regular people in different parts of the country, calling their followership “organic” and able to change the results of elections.
He said that this kind of alliance could help bring together people from different political and regional backgrounds, especially between the North and the South-East, and it could also help build support in the southern part of the country.
Mai-Lemo said that past attempts to create a similar alliance before the 2023 general election failed, but he still believes the idea is possible.
He said that if the two politicians worked together, with support from leaders in other parts of the country, it would change the political landscape in a big way.
He said, “I think we need to be very realistic.” We need to remember what alliances have done in the past. Sometimes you need to look at what’s really going on in order to get what you want.
“Like I told you, everyone in the country now knows that Peter Obi and Kwankwaso are the only ones with real followers. Those followers are ready to go. In fact, it has a lot of benefits.
“It will help us bring together the northern and eastern parts of Nigeria and the whole southern part of the country.”
“I think it’s easy to sell when the people inside support it.” And I think Tinubu’s ticket will be dead on arrival when Peter Obi and Kwankwaso work together with the help of all the leaders from the other side of the country.
